”And Caesar shall go forth…”
Sweeping the first competition. The Seven Cities Brewers (7CB) are determined to win back the Hampton Roads Brewers’ Cup from the Smithfield HAMS. They would have swept the Irish Ale competition too, had it not been for Jessica Wyatt’s amazing Irish Red Ale that launched the Virginia Peninsula Homebrewers (VPH) into second place.
Overall, it was a great competition with some really great entries. Over the course of three hours, The seven judges tasted and scored 18 Irish Red Ales and 9 Irish Stouts, sending the top 2 from each table into the mini Best of Show. These final brews included Irish Red Ales from Ed McDermott, Jessica Wyatt, Brian McCrickard, and Joey Tomasello, and Irish Stouts from Larry Lentz and Rick Shaw. When all was said and done, three stood alone, and they were all Irish Reds.
1st Place – Ed McDermott (7CB)
2nd – Jessica Wyatt (VPH)
3rd – Joey Tomasello (7CB)
A hearty congratulations to the winners, and a big thanks to the judges and stewards who make this competition run so smooth.
We’d also like to extend a special thanks to Brian Binder and the folks at Brew & Bottle, LLC in Newport News. They generously donated a 50lb bag of Bestmalz Best Red X for the winner.
